Anglican Women’s Empowerment

Purpose:

The Anglican Women’s Empowerment (AWE), as representatives of the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) Observer’s Office to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Woman (UNCSW), intends to be an effective and empowered Anglican voice for women at the United Nations (UN) and in the Anglican Communion and deepen our commitment to worldwide reconciliation, right relationships and shared work for peace and justice.

Our goals are to:

  • Enable greater representation and participation of women from all of the Anglican Provinces to the UNCSW’s annual meetings;
  • Develop a questionnaire that will assist the Provinces in looking at women’s status in light of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPA) within their own communities;
  • Educate and empower women through exposure and training about global issues addressed in the Beijing Platform for Action (BPA), Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and UN Resolution # 1325;
  • Work toward equal representation of women in the ACC and other bodies of the Anglican Communion.
